VIDEO: New 991 GT3RS rental crashed at Aremberg

It’s no surprise that rental cars get crashed at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. But when that rental car comes with a liability (or excess) of €150,000, then it’s news.

The following video serves as a stark reminder that Aremberg in the wet is one of the trickiest braking zones on the whole Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Porsche 991 GT3RS comes in hard, way too fast for the conditions, and predictably crashes into the guardrail.

What was the driver was thinking? Or the instructor? Why on Earth was this car rented in these conditions?

(surely there’s an instructor onboard when you’re renting out a GT3RS worth over a quarter-million Euros on the Nordschleife!?)

Did they expect the track to be dry? Did they think they were on racing wets instead of slippery-when-wet Pilots Sport Cup2s?

I guess we might never know. I hope for the love of all things financially sound that the driver of this car took out some sort of extra third-party-provider insurance on the car, otherwise the RSR website would suggest he had an excess of up to €150,000 on car damage. And a 991 GT3RS hitting ass-sideways will NOT be a cheap repair job.
