I always said I’d NEVER buy a brand-new car, but then I saw the new SEAT Leon ST Cupra 280.
And then, I test drove a dealer demo car.
It’s no secret that the Cupra 280 is considered by many to be the pick of the MQB platform. Faster and more fun than even a Golf R on track, according to many reviews.
Then the Estate version of this ultimate VAG hot-hatch became internet-famous only in May, after it went sub-8. SEAT’s tongue-in-cheek video to accompany the occasion really struck a chord with me.
I thought to myself: as a dog-owning father of two who lives in Adenau and works in Nürburg, could there possibly be any finer car?!
It was no use, I couldn’t resist. After watching mobile.de for a few weeks, I finally found a discounted, manual gearbox Cupra 280 ST in the colours I wanted. brand new, 0kms, official German car. And only a few days later I was driving it home from a very Eastern part of Germany!
Of course, it wasn’t long before I took it on to the track. Here are my first thoughts, in one little video:
The ability to pack the back full of event gear, unpack then lead convoys around the Nordschleife doing eight-minute laps is something I won’t believe until I’ve done it. Luckily for me, the SEAT’s first outing is only 7 days away.
