Ok, it's a little bit late. But here's a little light reading taken from the pages of October's Performance Car magazine...
Some of our students at RSR Nürburg dismiss the wet as ‘unforgiving’ or even ‘dangerous’. Quite legitimately they’re scared of it. But driving in the wet is the ultimate tool for learning both the balance and ‘feel’ you need to possess to drive a performance car competently and confidently...
This little bit of footage is an absolute gem. Sit onboard for a few kilometers of the old Nürburgring Nordschleife. No armco, no planed-off and level surfaces. The angle is superb and you can really see those old cross-ply treads working. The video is apparantly narrated by Mr. Chumley-Warner and the music is classic. Enjoy.
I just spotted this on YouTube and thought I'd share. It's a complete lap from the 1975 Grand Prix. It's made from several different reels edited together. The helicopter view is surreal and shows just how huge the F1 specator numbers used to be. Enjoy.
Here's a little treat. Ron Simons takes the RSR Nürburg ProSport Spyder LMP car out on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. With a Cosworth V6, around 350bhp and slicks, it's not slow. I'm in the passenger seat giving the thumbs up now and again just to confirm I'm not about to puke.
For anybody (un)lucky enough to sit passenger in my little Alfa, this video will come as no great surprise. For those who haven't been privy to the controllabiltiy and deftness of the little 75, let this be a lesson...
There's been an awful lot of controversy over Nissan's laptime claim for the GTR. I for one have had to sit and listen to a couple of different Nürburgring pros explain at length why the time simply isn't possible for a road car. They say the Porsche GT3 and GT2 is a true measure of a road-legal sports car and the GTR simply can't beat it on street tyres because it's too heavy. They say this car must have slicks and racing brakes.
The video inside should quell 90% of doubts. It shows some of the most comfortably aggressive driving I've ever seen. Seeing this level of attack is always impressive, but on the Nordschleife? Amazing.
