BTG member Herr Teflon writes to us with an absolute stonker of a deal for anybody wanting to experience the weekend of motorsports heaven that will be F1 at the Nürburgring, 2009!

"There's a recession on you know. Yeah, really! Heard it on the radio, seen it on the TV show. Doom and gloom on every page and every channel.
Well my friends, there's always good news to be found in hardened times like these. Whether it be the best price ever for that E39 M5 you've hankered after, or that 42" LCD with 50% off, quite literally, the shirt on your back is likely to cost you less."
There's been a whole layer of virtual money, up near the top of the tree, that's gone. Vanished. Disappeared overnight, lost in shady finance deals in complex financial mechanisms posing as good investments. As a result, corporate spending has shrunk by up to 90% of what it once was a couple of years ago.
So what on earth has this got to do with us, you and I – the motorsport enthusiasts? Well since the ridiculous, ludicrous amounts of corporate spend has evaporated; gaps at major events have opened up. We'd heard that a room in a prominent hotel near the Nürburgring would previously charge corporate rates of up to €4000 per night with a minimum 4 nights stay. Hotels and guest houses are usually full in advance for months, restaurants weeks.

But now hotels have spare rooms, capacity has become available on flights to sports destinations and tickets haven't sold, all of which means local firms bereft of the corporate dollar scrambling to salvage some business.
Hence this package from Ringweekends.com and the Burgstübe Hotel. Together they've come up with a 4 night package to visit the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Nürburgring on July 12th. Including 3 day race admission tickets, 4 nights hotel bed and breakfast and evening meal, airport transfers to and from your arrival airport in the region (or a channel crossing of your choice for those driving from Britain) and an exclusive 2 hr "trackwalk" guided tour of the old Nürburgring Nordschleife.

These packages will have you staying in the heart of Nürburg itself (you can see the track from the hotel so no 40 minute journeys each day to get to and from your bed). Compare their package against others and this package looks like a bargain at £799GBP. It's even looking likely that they'll be able to take you for an exhilarating lap of the old Nordschleife in a Porsche 996 GT3 RS (at a modest additional cost – GT3 running costs heed not recession nor man!) (MrBTG - this will like be with me or another BTG'er ;) )

So like I said – every cloud has a silver lining, and as far as this writer's concerned, sports enthusiasts of the world can only benefit from the loss of the unlimited corporate expense account. (And if you are a business looking for a good value deal – they take company cheques too!)
