After the rumours, tweets and generally ill-informed gossip of last week Lexus Global have stepped up to the plate and delivered the in-car footage of Akira Iida's fantastic 7m14s lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The LFA has been testing hard at the Nordschleife for years, BTG first carried photos of the prototype car all the way back in 2007! The car driven here is on the stock Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres and represents the final specification of the eye-wateringly pricey Lexus LFA 'Nürburgring Edition'
After reading the somewhat confusing reports in the 'mainstream' car press, I feel the need to clear up some points:
- There has never been a video of the Porsche GT2.RS's alleged 7m18s lap. No video = no proof, stop talking about it like it's a fact OR show me the video!
- There is no 'official' third-party governing body deciding what the record is or isn't, or what qualifies as 'production' or not. The closest there is to such a thing is maybe our own page here: Fastest Production Car Lap of the Nurburgring
- The iPool laptime method (from the end of T13 straight to the start of it) is pretty much the industry standard as it's a simpler solution for the guys who are using T13 pitlane on the industry pool days. Sure, some cars (like the awesome Radical SR8-LM) have a full lap time, but the norm is the iPool method as seen here.

Big thanks to Mik via the BTG Facebook page for the hot tip to the Japanese Lexus page!
