New 998 Porsche chasing a Carrera GT

Details

There's a reason why benchmarks are benchmarks. That's why the Porsche development team have their own black Carrera GT just sat ready for a lap of the 'ring. So today, while the whole family of new 998-bodied 911s have been testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, some lucky drivers have also been thrashing the Porsche-owned Carrera GT too...

Personally I think this is a 2012 Carrera S 998. It's longer, wider and just different to the current 997. The wheels are reminiscent of the GT3 design, but the lack of centre-lock hubs suggests this is only an S. Also note the disguised air intakes. At first glance I dismissed them as stickers, but having seen the car up close, I now think this is a double-bluff by the anti-espionage team - which would make the 998 the first naturally aspirated Porsche to boast the rear air-intakes normally reserved for turbo models.

well a closeup crop at that last picture on the bottom should put the side intake question to rest...
