I took part in the VLN 'einstellfahrten' session this evening in the Manheller BMW M3. This 'Klasse V5' car is a production or 'series' 4-door E36 M3 with 300bhp, standard-sized brake discs, calipers and uprated struts and springs. This is my second and final lap of the day, with Steve on the passenger seat.

Unfortunately I'm the fourth driver in a three driver race, so I'll be on datalogging and timing duty tomorrow - but the next race is the 6-hour and I'm on the roster for that! Note the combination of Nurburgring GP and Nordschleife.

A great lap of the Nürburgring 'combined' circuit courtesy of ring-fokus.de. Two 'local' boys battling it out on the second lap of the previous VLN race. It's proper nip and tuck racing the whole way around the Nordschleife, with Krumbach nearly rear-ending Menzel on several occasions!

The next race is this Saturday, and BTG will be competing in the class V5 Manheller E36 M3. See you there?

Zonda are claiming to have set the new Nürburgring lap record for 'production-based sportscar on the Nordschleife'. The 750bhp monster shattered the Ferarri 599xx's previous 6m58s 'record' with a deeply impressive 6m47s full lap of the Nordschleife. While the 6.0ltr AMG-powered V12 might be fast, it still used full racing slicks to set the time, so any 'nod' towards a production record needs to be taken with a pinch of salt! The asking price for any Zonda is high, but this beast is at least 1.5 million Euros!

Racing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It's a goal shared by novices and experts all over the world, and yesterday two more novices turned that dream into reality...

It's hard to believe, but this is a plan which only came together on Thursday night last week. We only got our licenses back from the DMSB on Friday night. And on Saturday morning, we met the team for the first time... (more after the 'read more' jump)

Just in case you aren't aware already, BTG has a Vimeo Channel. Not only is uploading videos easier on Vimeo thanks to their uploading widget, but also the final quality is usually much superior to YouTube. On there right now you'll find a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a Porsche 996 GT2 and a lap in a Ford Focus RS mk2... enjoy!
