Participants in last night's touristenfahrt were witness to an unusual spectacle, that could be construed as a massive crash of the new McLaren MP4-12C while it was attempting to set a new production car lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. More info after the 'read more' jump...

Standing next to the Nurburgring at Industry Pool can be a little bit like train spotting. I'm *really* not interested if the latest diesel Golf has a new chin spoiler or if there's a new style sunroof on the next Mercedes executive blue-sky autobahn coffin. Today was completely different - I only had 20 minutes between appointments and this is what I managed to get photos of:

This is the soon-to-be-released OPC (VXR in England) Corsa Nurburgring-edition undergoing final tests at the Nürburgring. Earlier in the same week we spotted the OPC boss lapping the new model hard. What you can just about see in this shot are the new brake calipers and forged wheels exclusive to the OPC version. What you can't see is the LSD and twin-exit exhaust.

Another 'benchmark' machine that comes out of hibernation during industry pool testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife is this white Toyota Supra. It seems to be driven by engineers and 'learner' drivers. Other classics that can be seen on industry days include the Porsche Carrera GT and a Nissan Skyline GTR. Renaultsport have been at the 'ring this week both testing and learning. They setup a somewhat temporary shop behind the catering tent in the GP paddock, then proceded to drive the 'ring using the maxim; "drive it like you stole it". We saw a number of Clios and a very tastily stickered-up Megane.
