Do you enjoy BTG?

BTG is NOT a massive operation; it's just me, my camera and my computer. And a lot of help from my friends and family. Thanks!

Nurburgring Lap Times

The making of the Camaro ZL1 laptime

Details

Fans of big, fat, American muscle cars rejoice! As part of a promotional 'push' on the supercharged Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, GM have released this little video celebrating the time the car spent here at the Nürburgring Nordschleife last year. It's a little bit jingoistic for my tastes, but it's genuinely insightful as to how 'important' a good 'Ring time can be to a development team.

What I like about the approach of the guys you'll see below is not that they chase a time by constantly lapping over many years. Instead they finish the product and THEN ask 'What will it do around the Ring?'. The moment when that the big ZL1 blew away even their best expectations with a 7m41s lap must have been very satisfying.

Great noises, I think you'll agree. And now that the naturally-aspirated Camaro V8 is officially a European model (similar spec to the American SS model) I'd be really interested in seeing how a car like this can compare to a stock E92 M3 around the Nordschleife. Anybody from GM Europe willing to let us find out?

To see the original story on BridgeToGantry.com and the full 7m41s lap, not to mention more photos of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, just click here.

Wow, cool vid, shocked that he mentioned so many laps on Forza... I've run hundreds on Forza and its arguably the least accruate reprosentation of the ring, most obviously becasue it's several klm longer in game that real track... But! Still cool :)

Yeah, bless the Americans and their love of Forza. Going straight on at T13 because you thought there was a 100mtr straight is now called a 'Forza moment'
