Those of you with excellent memories may remember that there was a strange hanger-on to last year's Viper ACR record attempt. While the Vipers were busy setting record-breaking laps, a big black Jeep Cherokee would occasionaly blast past. We heard at the time that it was for a possible SUV record attempt. That is now confirmed, and there's an excellent little feature playing on the Speed channel in the USA.

The presenter interviews Sabine Schmitz (who the Yanks just love to call Queen of the Ring) and takes the SRT8 out for some rain-soaked laps of the Nordschleife. This whole thing was shot over several days, so the point at which the track magically clears, dries and is covered in sunshine? Yep, that's another day, not five minutes later like it says below... (oh, and when they cut the presenter's piece together they had no idea what part of the track was what, just grin and bear it!)
Sabine turns in a slightly bewildering 8m49s 'full' lap of the Nordschleife (T13 lap, missing about 100mtrs) in the totally standard Jeep. It's a tidy looking lap made even better by some of the awesome helicopter shots.
As you can read here, there are many odd Nürburgring lap records, and I'm sorry to say that the Jeep SRT8 is nowhere near top of the bunch for SUVs. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo can allegedly turn in an 8m33s and I wouldn't think the Range Rover Sport would be too far behind on a proper run.
