The Nürburgring Nordschleife in winter can be dull and wet. But when the snow comes, I think it turns from grey to great. This weekend I took a couple of short trips to capture an impression of the old north-loop in snow. Enjoy...

Normally your lap of the 'ring starts at the famous Döttinger Höhe. But a locked and closed gate and a thick layer of ice under the snow stops us from using the track this weekend.

My next stop was Hatzenbach. I was greeted by the beginnings of a blizzard.

The weather wasn't much better as moved further along to the exit of Hatzenbach: Hocheichen. This is the view from Hocheichen towards Quiddelbacher Hohe.

And this is the gradient (and the verge) that you have to deal with, looking the wrong way from the inside of the turn.

A few minutes later and we were next to Schwedenkreuz. This is the scene looking backwards up the track to Flugplatz:

And this is the infamous Schwedenkreuz corrner, even more dangerous than normal...

Back into the woods, over the Aremberg bridge (above) and we're on the outside of the Nordschleife looking in. This angle gives you a great impression of the elevation changes in a single corner of the 'Ring

That was day one... next is day two!
