Wow Dale, scary stuff. Just reading through all those scary stats reminds me of those nervous weeks before my first 'Ring visit learning Ben Lovejoy's website verbatim and writing off undies just thinking about it! Deams to self... Ah my first visit. Parked up in glorious sunshine between laps, some nutter from PB (sporting a pony tail) shooting a feature parked beside us in the car park. I think I must be from a different generation bringing up Ben's page but it does beg the question as to what "pre-travel" prep the average visitor does these days? Is BTG the de rigueur info source for the novice english speaker? What sort of traffic goes where and who if anybody posts a concise safety instruction. G

Dale, I think you're doing the right thing... Does the ring management realize how dangerous their free-to-ride track/road is? A survey turned around for them and their view of their responsibility in people getting killed would be interesting...

Ok, i wouldnt dare to take an atom to the NS LOL...specialy not during TF Actually it's hilarious... Passing everything in sight, pushing bikes out of your way... First year i had it, my BTG dropped 10 seconds each visit... I settled aroudn 8:20 because it just kept getting scarier each time... And i dont know the word "limit"... Last year, it really got scary... 2 nice laps with a kid as a passenger, noproblemo, then his dad comes along, one fine lap and then a big swipe... I think that if it was any other car than the Atom, the weight and inertia would have taken it's toll and the barrier...

U nailed it here mister :) That's what i've been telling for years I's a dangerous mix cars and bikes on a busy touristenfahrte n day.. so maybe they could do something like from 08:00 till 12:00 bikes and from 12:00 to ??? cars... also on weekdays..let's say mondays bikes, thuesdays cars..Etc... And maybe it isnt a bad idea to have a technical car-checkup on the ring aswell... i see to many potential wrecks on the start and 2 minutes later there's an oil spill.. maybe they could do a quick check on cars that look "crappy"...or something

That's quite a staggering lack of knowledge shown there. WOW!! Everyone knows that the Ring is a totally different beast to the Tracks that we have sessions on here in Blighty, Brands, Snetterton etc. But as the Nordschleife gets busier and busier each year, with more and more people obviously not even knowing the basic etiquette, something really needs to happen to make it a safer place. Don't get me wrong, I know it would be difficult to implement, but the trackdays here have varying levels. From taster sessions of 20mins, for a few laps with similarly experienced drivers. Or open pit lanes for the more experienced. Plus (and more importantly IMHO) Cars and bikes NEVER mix. If I could change just one thing about the Nordschleife, it would be set days or weekends for cars and bikes. But hey, I'm beginning to sound like a moaner, which I'm not for sure. There must be a way to get this basic information out to people using the Nordschleife?

Im from belgium and have known the rules since the first time i stepped into the car park 12 years ago... there's a big panel to read... But i dont think it is in the ideal place... Most trackdays you go to, there is a briefing with the pilots. why isn't this in the ring? Or Hockenheim TF for that matter?

Genuinely scary answers there Dale, but how would you ensure people know what to do? Should the ticket office hand out a leaflet with top 10 do's and don'ts? Should they make people sign a document to make sure they've read and understand the rules with every ticket purchase? I'd even suggest a season ticket holder (like the one you spoke to) be required to take a 10-20 question multi choice exam - I mean, would you mind the 5 mins delay once a year? I suspect they're too busy getting people through the barriers as quickly as possible while assuming drivers know what they're doing... I came in early July and brought my brother for his 40th (my 5th time, his 1st), while we did some great laps (nothing too fast this year - busy) we were both stunned at the stupidity of some drivers and one particular rider, who had some kind of deathwish as he swept across the full width of the track, missing my front bumper by inches on more than one occasion! It is a shame that some idiots think you can just turn up and go round as fast as you dare with no regard for others or the rules... I'll be back next year regardless!
